Best financial consolidation software for a company group: six tools by the job each does

Financial consolidation software for company groups on QuickBooks Online or Xero, grouped by the job each does and how each bills, with when Excel is enough.

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-30

Quick answerThe best choice depends on the job. A reporting app that reads your books, such as Joiin or Fathom, suits an owner who wants group statements fast. JustConsolidate books the consolidation inside QuickBooks. Intuit Enterprise Suite is a move to one system. Acterys is a Power BI planning platform. Two or three simple companies can stay in Excel.
Joiin is likely to fit when

✓ Owners and finance leads with 5 to 10 companies on QuickBooks Online or Xero who rebuild group numbers in Excel each month

✓ Groups that need account mapping, intercompany eliminations and ownership percentages without changing accounting systems

✓ Teams that want a board-style report pack and a free trial before paying

✓ Groups with a second currency or foreign subsidiaries that need a plan with multiple reporting currencies

Important limitations

— Single-company businesses

— Two or three small companies with matching accounts, where Excel is enough

— Groups that want the consolidation booked as journal entries in a QuickBooks ledger

— Groups ready to move to one ERP for all companies

Best financial consolidation software: the short answer

Financial consolidation here means combining the books of several legal entities into one set of statements, with transactions between them removed. It does not mean combining debts into one loan. The SEC's rule for companies that file with it states a presumption that consolidated statements are more meaningful when one entity has a controlling financial interest in another. Private groups are not bound by that rule, but lenders and investors often ask for the same view.

No single tool wins for every group. The tools below do different jobs, and this guide reads each vendor's own pages, dated October 30, 2026, to say which job that is.

Six options and the job each does

  • Joiin, a reporting app: connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage and more, maps accounts, eliminates intercompany items and builds group reports. The Joiin review covers strengths and limits.
  • Fathom, a reporting and forecasting app: lists consolidated reporting for up to 300 entities across systems and currencies, with cash flow forecasting. It also sells to accounting firms. See Joiin vs Fathom.
  • Spotlight Reporting, a reporting and forecasting app: its home page lists group consolidation up to 75 entities, consolidated forecasting, a free trial, and Xero and QuickBooks integrations.
  • JustConsolidate, consolidation inside QuickBooks: it posts a trial balance entry into a new QuickBooks company you create, leaves your existing companies untouched and runs the consolidated statements from that company. Its page says it is built for accountants who run multi-entity groups.
  • Intuit Enterprise Suite, an ERP: Intuit's page lists multi-entity management and automated intercompany eliminations. QuickBooks Online Advanced's page points multi-entity needs to it and mentions help with migration.
  • Acterys, a planning platform on Power BI: its page lists consolidation and eliminations for multi-entity and multi-currency processes feeding Power BI reports.

How each one bills, compared

  • Joiin: by number of companies, across Core, Pro and Max, with unlimited users. The Joiin pricing guide shows how to read the live page.
  • Fathom: by number of companies connected, with a Pro plan, a quote for 51 or more companies and a Portfolio plan for firms.
  • JustConsolidate: by number of companies with a monthly cap, billed monthly with no contract, and a trial that lasts at least 30 days and until a first consolidation is posted.
  • Spotlight Reporting, Intuit Enterprise Suite and Acterys: confirm the billing meter and any setup or implementation fee with each vendor before comparing totals.

When a spreadsheet is enough

Excel works when you hold two or three companies, their charts of accounts already match, one currency applies and intercompany items are few. The monthly job is then an export from each company, a mapping column, an elimination line and a sum. It stops working when the account lists drift apart, when each month needs 10 exports, when a partly owned company or a second currency appears, or when the person who built the workbook leaves. The QuickBooks Online consolidation steps lay out the spreadsheet route in order.

Which option fits which situation

  • An owner or finance lead with 5 to 10 companies on QuickBooks Online or Xero who wants group statements and a board pack soon: trial a reporting app first, Joiin or Fathom or Spotlight Reporting.
  • A group whose accountant wants consolidated entries in a QuickBooks ledger with journal entries: JustConsolidate.
  • A group that has outgrown QuickBooks Online and is willing to change its accounting system: Intuit Enterprise Suite.
  • A finance team already living in Power BI that wants budgeting and consolidation together: Acterys.
  • A small, simple group: stay in Excel until the monthly rebuild becomes the problem.
